“The secret of colours, Chinese and European ceramics from the 18th century to today”<\/p>\n

In the field of ceramics, colour has been the subject of a quest, sometimes long and tedious, but often a source of unprecedented emulation. This exhibition tells the tumultuous story of this quest for colour in China and France. It compares two key moments in the history of porcelain in China and Europe, both of which were characterised by the desire to extend the palette of enamels: the turn of the 18th century in China and the 19th century in France, two periods during which Franco-Chinese exchanges were particularly intense. The last part of the exhibition opens on more contemporary research on colour through the presentation of works by Fance Franck and Thomas Bohle.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

On the agenda: Guided tours for all ages, workshops on copper and porcelain glazes, a series of lectures on the symbolism of colours, the development of the enamelled palette on ceramics in Europe and China and much more.<\/p>\n

The upcoming PCC will be part of the satellite events
organised on the occasion of the 50th Congress of the IAC. The central subject of the Congress will be Melting pot: from the Alchemical Crucible to the Cultural Melting Pot. In order to highlight this synergy, the Fondation Bruckner has decided to focus the programme of the 17th edition of the PCC around the question of the existing relationship between alchemy and ceramics. Indeed, ceramics is often referred to as an alchemical discipline. Alchemy and ceramics are both about the refinement of materials and their transformation to give birth to new ones. But not only that \u2013they also entail a pursuit; the quest of the absolute, of the elevation of those who practice them.<\/p>\n

This collective exhibition of ceramic and textile arts, MATERIA, asks questions about the categories of fine and decorative arts and the distinction often made between them. It opens a dialogue between works from the contemporary scene with those from a pioneering period in the history of applied arts in Switzerland. MATERIA exhibits textile and ceramic works by contemporary Swiss artists Victor Ausl\u00e4nder, Estelle Bourdet, Laure Gonthier, Maya Hottarek, Lucie Kohler, X\u00e9nia Laffely, Julie Monot and Jeanne-Odette, as well as historical pieces by Edouard Chapallaz, Aline Favre and Philippe Lambercy. Echoing Danielle Jacqui’s ceramic work ORGANuGAMME II installed at La Ferme des Tilleuls, MATERIA also presents a selection of this Outsider artist’s clothing, in an exhibition by photographer Estelle Hanania.<\/p>\n

“Imprints. Building in ceramic”<\/p>\n

Bricks, tiles of all kind and pipes are all common ceramic elements used in construction that draw from diverse ancestral skills. Whether discovered in Geneva or brought back from faraway lands, whether fired in a Gallo-Roman kiln or cast in a twentieth century factory, terracotta elements have for a long time been considered for their documentary value. Yet studies reveal important technological innovations, vast trade circuits and the presence of workshops whose productions were marked by stamps or finger-made signatures. Certain pieces even immortalize fleeting moments, like the chance imprint of a dog\u2019s paw or goat\u2019s foot in the still soft clay. Brought together at the Maison Tavel, these architectural ceramics from different times are viewed from both a functional and aesthetic angle.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

This project is built around the meeting of pieces from Africa, Asia, Oceania, the Americas and various ancient civilizations from the Barbier-Mueller collections and the works of Jacques Kaufmann. Attempting to identify similarities – as well as differences -, this exhibition juxtaposes works of diverse origins, time periods and materials, inviting the visitor to recreate his or her own correspondences and to enrich the proposed resonances.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

The Visarte Vaud association, the Centre d\u2019art contemporain Yverdon-les-Bains and the Mus\u00e9e d\u2019Yverdon et r\u00e9gion present an exhibition of visual arts bringing together artists from diverse backgrounds. They will present installations, sculptures, poems and performances. A collection of historical pieces will accompany contemporary works. Melting Pot \u2013 or the crucible of cultures \u2013 is a mix of artists who express themselves with clay; visual artists or ceramists with different backgrounds, techniques and expressions but with one link: Ceramics.<\/p>\n

Dans le domaine de la c\u00e9ramique, la couleur a fait l\u2019objet d\u2019une qu\u00eate, parfois longue et fastidieuse, mais souvent source d\u2019une \u00e9mulation sans pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent. Cette exposition raconte l\u2019histoire tumultueuse de cette qu\u00eate de la couleur en Chine et en France. Elle propose de mettre en regard deux moments cl\u00e9s de l\u2019histoire de la porcelaine en Chine et en Europe, tous deux caract\u00e9ris\u00e9s par la volont\u00e9 d\u2019\u00e9tendre la palette des \u00e9maux : le tournant du XVIII\u00e8me<\/sup> si\u00e8cle en Chine et le XIX\u00e8me<\/sup> si\u00e8cle en France, deux p\u00e9riodes pendant lesquelles les \u00e9changes franco-chinois furent particuli\u00e8rement intenses. La derni\u00e8re partie de l\u2019exposition s\u2019ouvre sur des recherches plus contemporaines sur la couleur \u00e0 travers la pr\u00e9sentation des \u0153uvres de Fance Franck et de Thomas Bohle.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n

Le prochain Parcours C\u00e9ramique Carougeois (PCC) fera partie des \u00e9v\u00e8nements satellites du 50\u00e8me Congr\u00e8s de l\u2019AIC. Le Congr\u00e8s a choisi comme th\u00e9matique centrale \"Melting pot : du creuset alchimique au creuset culturel\". Pour souligner cette synergie, la Fondation Bruckner a donc d\u00e9cid\u00e9 d\u2019axer la programmation de la 17\u00e8me \u00e9dition du PCC sur la question de la relation entre alchimie et c\u00e9ramique. On parle en effet souvent de la c\u00e9ramique comme d\u2019une discipline alchimique. Alchimie et c\u00e9ramique ont en commun aussi bien le raffinement de mat\u00e9riaux et leur transformation pour donner naissance \u00e0 une mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9 nouvelle, qu\u2019une qu\u00eate, une recherche d\u2019absolu, d\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9vation pour celui ou celle qui les pratique.<\/p>\r\n

Briques, tuiles, carreaux, canalisations sont autant d\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9ments c\u00e9ramiques d\u2019usage courant dans la construction, qui m\u00ealent des savoir-faire ancestraux issus de divers horizons. D\u00e9couverts \u00e0 Gen\u00e8ve ou ramen\u00e9s de pays lointains, sortis d\u2019un four gallo-romain ou moul\u00e9s dans une usine du XX\u00e8me si\u00e8cle, les \u00e9l\u00e9ments en terre cuite ont longtemps \u00e9t\u00e9 consid\u00e9r\u00e9s pour leur valeur documentaire. Leur \u00e9tude r\u00e9v\u00e8le pourtant d\u2019importantes innovations technologiques, de vastes circuits commerciaux et la pr\u00e9sence d\u2019ateliers dont les productions \u00e9taient marqu\u00e9es par des estampilles ou des signes trac\u00e9s au doigt. Certaines pi\u00e8ces immortalisent m\u00eame des instants fugaces, telle l\u2019impression fortuite d\u2019une patte de chien ou de ch\u00e8vre dans l\u2019argile encore fra\u00eeche. En el campo de la cer\u00e1mica, el color ha sido objeto de una b\u00fasqueda, a veces larga y tediosa, pero a menudo fuente de una emulaci\u00f3n sin precedentes. Esta exposici\u00f3n cuenta la tumultuosa historia de esta b\u00fasqueda del color en China y Francia. Compara dos momentos clave de la historia de la porcelana en China y Europa, ambos caracterizados por la voluntad de ampliar la paleta de esmaltes: el cambio de siglo XVIII en China y el siglo XIX en Francia, dos periodos en los que Franco -Los intercambios chinos fueron particularmente intensos. El pr\u00f3ximo PCC ser\u00e1 parte de los eventos sat\u00e9liteorganizado con motivo del 50\u00ba Congreso de la IAC. El tema central del Congreso ser\u00e1 Melting pot: del Crisol Alqu\u00edmico al Crisol Cultural. Para resaltar esta sinergia, la Fondation Bruckner ha decidido centrar el programa de la 17\u00aa edici\u00f3n del PCC en torno a la cuesti\u00f3n de la relaci\u00f3n existente entre la alquimia y la cer\u00e1mica. De hecho, a menudo se hace referencia a la cer\u00e1mica como una disciplina alqu\u00edmica. Tanto la alquimia como la cer\u00e1mica tienen que ver con el refinamiento de los materiales y su transformaci\u00f3n para dar a luz a otros nuevos. Pero no s\u00f3lo eso, tambi\u00e9n conllevan una persecuci\u00f3n; la b\u00fasqueda de lo absoluto, de la elevaci\u00f3n de quienes las practican.<\/p>\r\n

Ladrillos, tejas de todo tipo y ca\u00f1er\u00edas son elementos cer\u00e1micos habituales en la construcci\u00f3n que beben de diversos saberes ancestrales. Ya sea descubierto en Ginebra o tra\u00eddo de tierras lejanas, ya sea cocido en un horno galorromano o fundido en una f\u00e1brica del siglo XX, los elementos de terracota han sido considerados durante mucho tiempo por su valor documental. Sin embargo, los estudios revelan importantes innovaciones tecnol\u00f3gicas, amplios circuitos comerciales y la presencia de talleres cuyas producciones estaban marcadas por sellos o firmas hechas a mano. Ciertas piezas incluso inmortalizan momentos fugaces, como la huella casual de la pata de un perro o la pata de una cabra en la arcilla a\u00fan blanda. Reunidas en la Maison Tavel, estas cer\u00e1micas arquitect\u00f3nicas de diferentes \u00e9pocas son vistas tanto desde un \u00e1ngulo funcional como est\u00e9tico.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n

In the field of ceramics, colour has been the subject of a quest, sometimes long and tedious, but often a source of unprecedented emulation. This exhibition tells the tumultuous story of this quest for colour in China and France. It compares two key moments in the history of porcelain in China and Europe, both of which were characterised by the desire to extend the palette of enamels: the turn of the 18th century in China and the 19th century in France, two periods during which Franco-Chinese exchanges were particularly intense. The last part of the exhibition opens on more contemporary research on colour through the presentation of works by Fance Franck and Thomas Bohle.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n

The upcoming PCC will be part of the satellite events
organised on the occasion of the 50th Congress of the IAC. The central subject of the Congress will be Melting pot: from the Alchemical Crucible to the Cultural Melting Pot. In order to highlight this synergy, the Fondation Bruckner has decided to focus the programme of the 17th edition of the PCC around the question of the existing relationship between alchemy and ceramics. Indeed, ceramics is often referred to as an alchemical discipline. Alchemy and ceramics are both about the refinement of materials and their transformation to give birth to new ones. But not only that \u2013they also entail a pursuit; the quest of the absolute, of the elevation of those who practice them.<\/p>\r\n

This collective exhibition of ceramic and textile arts, MATERIA, asks questions about the categories of fine and decorative arts and the distinction often made between them. It opens a dialogue between works from the contemporary scene with those from a pioneering period in the history of applied arts in Switzerland. MATERIA exhibits textile and ceramic works by contemporary Swiss artists Victor Ausl\u00e4nder, Estelle Bourdet, Laure Gonthier, Maya Hottarek, Lucie Kohler, X\u00e9nia Laffely, Julie Monot and Jeanne-Odette, as well as historical pieces by Edouard Chapallaz, Aline Favre and Philippe Lambercy. Echoing Danielle Jacqui's ceramic work ORGANuGAMME II installed at La Ferme des Tilleuls, MATERIA also presents a selection of this Outsider artist's clothing, in an exhibition by photographer Estelle Hanania.<\/p>\r\n

Bricks, tiles of all kind and pipes are all common ceramic elements used in construction that draw from diverse ancestral skills. Whether discovered in Geneva or brought back from faraway lands, whether fired in a Gallo-Roman kiln or cast in a twentieth century factory, terracotta elements have for a long time been considered for their documentary value. Yet studies reveal important technological innovations, vast trade circuits and the presence of workshops whose productions were marked by stamps or finger-made signatures. Certain pieces even immortalize fleeting moments, like the chance imprint of a dog\u2019s paw or goat\u2019s foot in the still soft clay. Brought together at the Maison Tavel, these architectural ceramics from different times are viewed from both a functional and aesthetic angle.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n

They will present installations, sculptures, poems and performances. A collection of historical pieces will accompany contemporary works. Melting Pot \u2013 or the crucible of cultures \u2013 is a mix of artists who express themselves with clay; visual artists or ceramists with different backgrounds, techniques and expressions but with one link: Ceramics.<\/p>\r\n
