“Pottery of the women of Sejnane”<\/p>\n

This exhibition presents the artisanal work and know-how of the women of Sejnane, who use a particular ancestral technique using local clay with natural colours extracted from plants to produce objects for everyday use such as dishes, glasses and cups, or for decorative purposes such as figurines of people, dolls or animals.
The origins of this activity go back to antiquity and are found in particular among the Berber populations who used these objects in their daily life to store wheat, olive oil or dates. Today it is in the region of Sejnane, on the road to Tabarka in north-western Tunisia, that this ancestral tradition has become a symbol of UNESCO’s World Heritage Site since 2018.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

The base is ceramics, the surface is graphic. The initiatives are not quite the same. Sekyun Ju works with low-fi patterns representative of times past, where nature is a predominant influence. “Image is a stranger” says Sekyun Ju. We are in 2022, Sekyun Ju is reconciling nature and civilization, tradition with contemporary.\u00a0 Martin Hyde adopts symbols drawn from various cultures, dismantles them and reconstructs them giving new meaning and subjectivity to re-inject into popular culture.
As these two artists progress, we see there are many ways to build bridges between utopia and reality.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

The ceramist Agn\u00e8s Morch is fascinated by the world of plants reproduction. She proposes sculptures of seeds that show the importance of the wonderful process of procreation. To make them visible, the artist uses a monumental scale as if to amplify their power of regeneration of the world: a political and militant act for life. The practice of ceramics by the architect Charles Pictet joins the tradition of applied arts. The pieces geometry and plasticity come from the knowledge he has acquired by playing with volume and shape through his architectural practice. The speed and flexibility of working with clay liberate him from the slower pace of architectural design.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

The Brasilitude exhibition presents the work of five contemporary Brazilian artists: Niura Bellavinha, Ricardo Cotrim, Fernando de la Rocque, Geraldo Marcolini and Lyz Parayzo. The artists express themselves using different media such as ceramics, painting and sound installation. The public is invited to take a journey, an immersion, in Brazil through the presented colour palettes, textures and sound. Brasilitude celebrates the bicentenary of Brazilian Independence (1822), with reference to the 1922 Modern Art Week, a landmark in Brazilian art history.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

Simple forms stand in the gallery like mini menhirs on which, on both sides, with a few strokes of colour, Jan Voss has circumscribed faces which, although schematically drawn, are strikingly expressive.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

The exhibition presents a selection of works by Joana Vasconcelos including ceramic and textile pieces from her famed Bordalos and Boxes series, alongside two ceramic works by Ai Weiwei. By courting the ready-made, New Realism and Pop Art, both artists ironically question the contemporary society, its socio-cultural norms and collective identities. Their nonconformist visual language, often referring to the history of art and playing with the codes of luxury and design, or with the potential of elements drawn from the domestic universe, allows artisanship and industry, tradition and modernity, popular culture and erudition to coexist.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

The artist is fascinated by the idea that through the decomposition of the parent rock, clay is formed and that on its migration path, it is loaded with the pigments of all the colours of human skin – through its millennial geological migration, it inherits the colours of humanity. “While working with clay, I realised that I always go through a nostalgic phase where I dream of preserving as long as possible that state of the clay which is compared to the ‘leather hardness’, a materiality unique to slightly moist clay, and thus immortalise this aspect of skin. I try not only to mimic the consistency of a clay skin by trying to preserve its oily and satiny surface, but also its human texture that welcomes my handprints”.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

In the exhibition “We come from the other side”, works by five artists are played together in a reflection on society and forms of community. A unifying starting point in the dialogue is the medium clay and how the constituents and technical qualities of the material can act meaning to the topic in historical and contemporary context. The title signals poetic and concrete associations to the idea of human interaction. From a critical position, the artists contribute by providing a deeper understanding of issues related to ancestral land and industrial development, migration and double consciousness, natural phenomena and changing ecosystems.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

Akio Takamori is familiar to us through his representations of the human figure, with all its uniqueness and diversity. Whether they are based on images from his Japanese childhood, are inspired by Spanish 17th century painting, by Zen Buddhism, or Greco-Roman mythology, his figures transcend the historical and cultural contexts to touch the very substance of our souls. They stride towards us on sturdy legs, are lost in deep sleep, crouch in provocative poses, or are wrapped in an erotic embrace. Whatever shape or format he gives them, they are always profoundly affecting.

“J\u00c9LOUZAS”<\/p>\n

The title of the exhibition: J\u00c9LOUZAS is an anagram of Azul\u00e9jos. The word “azulejo” comes either from the Arabic al zulaydj, \u0632\u0644\u064a\u062c, “small polished stone”, or from the Portuguese or Spanish, azul, “blue”. These tiles made of earthenware, in square format and beveled edges can be discovered in Portugal. Thomas Bonny’s work is pictorial, polymorphic and organic. It models a sensitive, analytical, critical and creative stance towards systems: those that we adopt collectively, those that are imposed, but also, those that we establish individually, psychologically. Thomas Bonny cultivates an attitude that is both ironic and humanistic towards standardized rules. Keeping a distance from established dogmas, he favors experimentation, a tool he uses to build, move or adjust.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

This exhibition presents the artisanal work and know-how of the women of Sejnane, who use a particular ancestral technique using local clay with natural colours extracted from plants to produce objects for everyday use such as dishes, glasses and cups, or for decorative purposes such as figurines of people, dolls or animals.
The origins of this activity go back to antiquity and are found in particular among the Berber populations who used these objects in their daily life to store wheat, olive oil or dates. Today it is in the region of Sejnane, on the road to Tabarka in north-western Tunisia, that this ancestral tradition has become a symbol of UNESCO's World Heritage Site since 2018.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n

The base is ceramics, the surface is graphic. The initiatives are not quite the same. Sekyun Ju works with low-fi patterns representative of times past, where nature is a predominant influence. \"Image is a stranger\" says Sekyun Ju. We are in 2022, Sekyun Ju is reconciling nature and civilization, tradition with contemporary.\u00a0 Martin Hyde adopts symbols drawn from various cultures, dismantles them and reconstructs them giving new meaning and subjectivity to re-inject into popular culture.
As these two artists progress, we see there are many ways to build bridges between utopia and reality.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n

The ceramist Agn\u00e8s Morch is fascinated by the world of plants reproduction. She proposes sculptures of seeds that show the importance of the wonderful process of procreation. To make them visible, the artist uses a monumental scale as if to amplify their power of regeneration of the world: a political and militant act for life. The practice of ceramics by the architect Charles Pictet joins the tradition of applied arts. The pieces geometry and plasticity come from the knowledge he has acquired by playing with volume and shape through his architectural practice. The speed and flexibility of working with clay liberate him from the slower pace of architectural design.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n

The artist is fascinated by the idea that through the decomposition of the parent rock, clay is formed and that on its migration path, it is loaded with the pigments of all the colours of human skin - through its millennial geological migration, it inherits the colours of humanity. \"While working with clay, I realised that I always go through a nostalgic phase where I dream of preserving as long as possible that state of the clay which is compared to the 'leather hardness', a materiality unique to slightly moist clay, and thus immortalise this aspect of skin. I try not only to mimic the consistency of a clay skin by trying to preserve its oily and satiny surface, but also its human texture that welcomes my handprints\".<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n

The title of the exhibition: J\u00c9LOUZAS is an anagram of Azul\u00e9jos. The word \"azulejo\" comes either from the Arabic al zulaydj, \u0632\u0644\u064a\u062c, \"small polished stone\", or from the Portuguese or Spanish, azul, \"blue\". These tiles made of earthenware, in square format and beveled edges can be discovered in Portugal. Thomas Bonny's work is pictorial, polymorphic and organic. It models a sensitive, analytical, critical and creative stance towards systems: those that we adopt collectively, those that are imposed, but also, those that we establish individually, psychologically. Thomas Bonny cultivates an attitude that is both ironic and humanistic towards standardized rules. Keeping a distance from established dogmas, he favors experimentation, a tool he uses to build, move or adjust.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n

Cette exposition pr\u00e9sente le travail artisanal et le savoir-faire des femmes de Sejnane qui consiste \u00e0 utiliser une technique ancestrale et particuli\u00e8re en utilisant de l'argile locale avec des couleurs naturelles extraites des plantes pour produire des objets \u00e0 usage quotidien comme les plats, les verres et tasses ou d\u00e9coratif comme les figurines de personnages, des poup\u00e9es ou des animaux.
L'origine de cette activit\u00e9 remonte \u00e0 l'Antiquit\u00e9 et se situe en particulier chez les populations berb\u00e8res qui se servaient de ces objets dans leur vie quotidienne pour stocker le bl\u00e9, l'huile d'olive ou encore les dattes. Aujourd'hui c'est dans la r\u00e9gion de Sejnane, sur la route vers Tabarka dans le nord-ouest de la Tunisie, qui est devenue le symbole de cette tradition ancestrale inscrite au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO depuis 2018.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n

Nous sommes en 2022, Sekyun Ju r\u00e9concilie nature et civilisation, tradition et contemporain. Martin Hyde adopte des symboles puis\u00e9s dans diverses cultures, les d\u00e9monte et les reconstruit en leur donnant un nouveau sens et une nouvelle subjectivit\u00e9 \u00e0 r\u00e9injecter dans la culture populaire. Pour qu'elles soient visibles, l\u2019artiste les rends monumentales comme pour amplifier leur pouvoir de r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9ration du monde: un acte politique militant pour la vie. La pratique de la c\u00e9ramique par l\u2019architecte Charles Pictet rejoint la tradition des arts appliqu\u00e9s. L'artiste est fascin\u00e9e par l\u2019id\u00e9e que gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la d\u00e9composition de la roche m\u00e8re, l\u2019argile se forme et que sur son chemin de migration, elle se charge des pigments de toutes les couleurs de la peau humaine \u2013 de par sa migration g\u00e9ologique mill\u00e9naire, elle h\u00e9rite des couleurs de l\u2019humanit\u00e9. \u00ab En travaillant l\u2019argile, j\u2019ai r\u00e9alis\u00e9 que je passe toujours par une phase nostalgique o\u00f9 je r\u00eave de conserver le plus longtemps possible cet \u00e9tat de l\u2019argile qu\u2019on compare \u00e0 la \u00ab duret\u00e9 cuir \u00bb, une mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9 unique \u00e0 l\u2019argile l\u00e9g\u00e8rement humide, et d\u2019immortaliser ainsi cet aspect d\u2019\u00e9piderme. Le titre de l\u2019expo: J\u00c9LOUZAS est un anagramme de Azul\u00e9jos. Le mot \u00ab azulejo \u00bb vient soit de l'arabe al zulaydj, \u0632\u0644\u064a\u062c, \u00ab petite pierre polie \u00bb, soit du portugais ou de l'espagnol, azul, \u00ab bleu \u00bb. Ce sont les catelles en fa\u00efence, au format carr\u00e9 et aux bords biseaut\u00e9s que l\u2019on peut d\u00e9couvrir au Portugal. Le travail de Thomas Bonny est pictural, polymorphe et organique. Il mod\u00e8le une posture sensible, analytique, critique et cr\u00e9ative \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9gard des syst\u00e8mes: ceux que l\u2019on adopte collectivement, ceux qui sont impos\u00e9s, mais aussi, ceux que l\u2019on \u00e9tablit individuellement, psychologiquement. Esta exposici\u00f3n presenta el trabajo artesanal y el saber hacer de las mujeres de Sejnane, que utilizan una t\u00e9cnica ancestral particular utilizando arcilla local con colores naturales extra\u00eddos de las plantas para producir objetos de uso cotidiano como platos, vasos y tazas, o con fines decorativos como como figuritas de personas, mu\u00f1ecos o animales. Los or\u00edgenes de esta actividad se remontan a la antig\u00fcedad y se encuentran en particular entre las poblaciones bereberes que utilizaban estos objetos en su vida cotidiana para almacenar trigo, aceite de oliva o d\u00e1tiles. Hoy es en la regi\u00f3n de Sejnane, en el camino a Tabarka en el noroeste de T\u00fanez, donde esta tradici\u00f3n ancestral se ha convertido en un s\u00edmbolo del Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la UNESCO desde 2018.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n

Sekyun Ju trabaja con patrones de baja fidelidad representativos de tiempos pasados, donde la naturaleza es una influencia predominante. \"La imagen es un extra\u00f1o\", dice Sekyun Ju. Estamos en 2022, Sekyun Ju est\u00e1 reconciliando la naturaleza y la civilizaci\u00f3n, la tradici\u00f3n con lo contempor\u00e1neo. Para hacerlos visibles, el artista utiliza una escala monumental como si quisiera amplificar su poder de regeneraci\u00f3n del mundo: un acto pol\u00edtico y militante por la vida. La pr\u00e1ctica de la cer\u00e1mica del arquitecto Charles Pictet se une a la tradici\u00f3n de las artes aplicadas. A la artista le fascina la idea de que, a trav\u00e9s de la descomposici\u00f3n de la roca madre, se forma la arcilla y que, en su camino de migraci\u00f3n, se carga con los pigmentos de todos los colores de la piel humana: a trav\u00e9s de su milenaria migraci\u00f3n geol\u00f3gica, hereda los colores de la humanidad. \"Al trabajar con la arcilla, me di cuenta de que siempre paso por una fase nost\u00e1lgica en la que sue\u00f1o con preservar el mayor tiempo posible ese estado de la arcilla que se compara con la \"dureza del cuero\", una materialidad \u00fanica de la arcilla ligeramente h\u00fameda, y as\u00ed inmortalizar este aspecto de la piel. Intento no s\u00f3lo imitar la consistencia de una piel de arcilla tratando de conservar su superficie aceitosa y satinada, sino tambi\u00e9n su textura humana que acoge las huellas de mis manos\".<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n

Estos azulejos de barro, de formato cuadrado y bordes biselados, se pueden descubrir en Portugal. La obra de Thomas Bonny es pict\u00f3rica, polimorfa y org\u00e1nica. Modela una postura sensible, anal\u00edtica, cr\u00edtica y creativa ante los sistemas: los que adoptamos colectivamente, los que se imponen, pero tambi\u00e9n, los que establecemos individualmente, psicol\u00f3gicamente. This exhibition presents the artisanal work and know-how of the women of Sejnane, who use a particular ancestral technique using local clay with natural colours extracted from plants to produce objects for everyday use such as dishes, glasses and cups, or for decorative purposes such as figurines of people, dolls or animals.
The origins of this activity go back to antiquity and are found in particular among the Berber populations who used these objects in their daily life to store wheat, olive oil or dates. Today it is in the region of Sejnane, on the road to Tabarka in north-western Tunisia, that this ancestral tradition has become a symbol of UNESCO's World Heritage Site since 2018.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n

The base is ceramics, the surface is graphic. The initiatives are not quite the same. Sekyun Ju works with low-fi patterns representative of times past, where nature is a predominant influence. \"Image is a stranger\" says Sekyun Ju. We are in 2022, Sekyun Ju is reconciling nature and civilization, tradition with contemporary.\u00a0 Martin Hyde adopts symbols drawn from various cultures, dismantles them and reconstructs them giving new meaning and subjectivity to re-inject into popular culture.
As these two artists progress, we see there are many ways to build bridges between utopia and reality.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n

The ceramist Agn\u00e8s Morch is fascinated by the world of plants reproduction. She proposes sculptures of seeds that show the importance of the wonderful process of procreation. To make them visible, the artist uses a monumental scale as if to amplify their power of regeneration of the world: a political and militant act for life. The practice of ceramics by the architect Charles Pictet joins the tradition of applied arts. The pieces geometry and plasticity come from the knowledge he has acquired by playing with volume and shape through his architectural practice. The speed and flexibility of working with clay liberate him from the slower pace of architectural design.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n

Lionel Latham has brought together an important collection from all the periods of his creation, which he now wishes to share with different generations, those who knew him well and others who will (re)discover him on occasion of this new exhibition.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n

Rosa Turetsky presents three artists who have met regularly for more than 20 years. Toshio Matsui lives and works in Kyoto, Christian Gonzenbach and Philippe Barde have their workshops in Geneva. The gallery shows their recent work, some made in pairs. Their practice has often led them to use the molding technique and the ceramic objects presented are the result of this process.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n

Simple forms stand in the gallery like mini menhirs on which, on both sides, with a few strokes of colour, Jan Voss has circumscribed faces which, although schematically drawn, are strikingly expressive.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n

The exhibition presents a selection of works by Joana Vasconcelos including ceramic and textile pieces from her famed Bordalos and Boxes series, alongside two ceramic works by Ai Weiwei. By courting the ready-made, New Realism and Pop Art, both artists ironically question the contemporary society, its socio-cultural norms and collective identities. Their nonconformist visual language, often referring to the history of art and playing with the codes of luxury and design, or with the potential of elements drawn from the domestic universe, allows artisanship and industry, tradition and modernity, popular culture and erudition to coexist.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n

The artist is fascinated by the idea that through the decomposition of the parent rock, clay is formed and that on its migration path, it is loaded with the pigments of all the colours of human skin - through its millennial geological migration, it inherits the colours of humanity. \"While working with clay, I realised that I always go through a nostalgic phase where I dream of preserving as long as possible that state of the clay which is compared to the 'leather hardness', a materiality unique to slightly moist clay, and thus immortalise this aspect of skin. I try not only to mimic the consistency of a clay skin by trying to preserve its oily and satiny surface, but also its human texture that welcomes my handprints\".<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n

In the exhibition \"We come from the other side\", works by five artists are played together in a reflection on society and forms of community. A unifying starting point in the dialogue is the medium clay and how the constituents and technical qualities of the material can act meaning to the topic in historical and contemporary context. The title signals poetic and concrete associations to the idea of human interaction. From a critical position, the artists contribute by providing a deeper understanding of issues related to ancestral land and industrial development, migration and double consciousness, natural phenomena and changing ecosystems.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n

Akio Takamori is familiar to us through his representations of the human figure, with all its uniqueness and diversity. Whether they are based on images from his Japanese childhood, are inspired by Spanish 17th century painting, by Zen Buddhism, or Greco-Roman mythology, his figures transcend the historical and cultural contexts to touch the very substance of our souls. They stride towards us on sturdy legs, are lost in deep sleep, crouch in provocative poses, or are wrapped in an erotic embrace. Whatever shape or format he gives them, they are always profoundly affecting.

The title of the exhibition: J\u00c9LOUZAS is an anagram of Azul\u00e9jos. The word \"azulejo\" comes either from the Arabic al zulaydj, \u0632\u0644\u064a\u062c, \"small polished stone\", or from the Portuguese or Spanish, azul, \"blue\". These tiles made of earthenware, in square format and beveled edges can be discovered in Portugal. Thomas Bonny's work is pictorial, polymorphic and organic. It models a sensitive, analytical, critical and creative stance towards systems: those that we adopt collectively, those that are imposed, but also, those that we establish individually, psychologically. Thomas Bonny cultivates an attitude that is both ironic and humanistic towards standardized rules. Keeping a distance from established dogmas, he favors experimentation, a tool he uses to build, move or adjust.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n
